Would you like to help us with an upcoming research funding application? The Leicester vascular team are working on a joint application with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust to propose a study looking at the use of Tranexamic Acid (TXA) during vascular surgery.
Tranexamic acid, often called TXA, is a medicine that helps reduce bleeding. It is already used in several areas of healthcare, including trauma and childbirth.
The research team want to develop a clinical trial to test whether TXA should be used routinely for adults having major vascular surgery. The study would look at whether TXA reduces bleeding in vascular patients undergoing surgery, the need for blood transfusion and related complications, while also carefully checking for problems caused by blood clots.
If you would like to be a PPI participant for the study, please click the button below to contact the Registry PPI coordinator. Please mention the TXA Trial in your message:
The research team are looking for PPI participants to help shape and oversee the study while it is rolled out. They would like to hear from people who have experience of vascular surgery involving the groin, or people who have had a leg amputation because of vascular disease. Taking part would involve joining online or face-to-face group discussions every few months and sharing your views and experiences.

The MOSAIC2 Study team are asking individuals with Intermittent Claudication (IC) to oversee and advise upon a 5 year multi-phase study. MOSAIC2 is an NIHR funded study taking place across the UK. It is researching the development and evaluation of a supported home-based walking programme for people with Intermittent Claudication.
The first stage of the research will adapt an existing successful programme, called MOSAIC2, so it can be delivered in GP practices and community trusts. It will then go onto evaluate whether it works and can be implemented into routine NHS care.
PPI advisors with the condition are needed to ensure that the way the research is being developed and run is acceptable and enables everyone who wants to participate in the research can do so. If you have Intermittent Claudication and would like to find out more about becoming a PPI advisor, then please contact us by clicking the button below. Please mention MOSAIC 2 in your message to the Coordinator.
The Vascular Research PPIE Registry is a UK-wide database controlled and managed by the University of Leicester containing the personal details (name, home postal address, contact telephone and/or email address) provided by individuals who have been invited and have agreed to become vascular research PPIE volunteers.
The PPIE Registry Participant Advisory Group meet every three to four months in a voluntary capacity to oversee the promotion and functioning of the Registry, and to offer feedback and advice to the PPIE coordinator from a participant perspective.
The meetings are held online via Microsoft Teams. If you are interested in becoming a Registry advisor then please click the button below to contact the PPIE coordinator.
